Venue: tbc dependent upon numbers/located in Fremantle
Min: 10 Max: 20

The Workshop’s Mission
The issue of identity is the very focus of contemporary cultures. To professionally participate in this movement, town planning and architecture design practices require specific analytical architectural information regarding the urban identity of the built environment within which they work. Planners and architects themselves have to be fluent not only in processing and applying such information, but also in developing it for places that are still not fully appreciative of their local characteristics. The workshop’s mission is to support planners and architects with methodology for defining the identity of the existing urban context and reflecting it in new design.

The Workshop’s Structure:
The workshop takes 1 day and requires 8 hours of work at the studio. It is divided in three sessions. Each session begins with a heavily illustrated introductory lecture. It is followed by intensive training which involves such activities as hand drawing, analytical drawing, discussions and public presentations of both personal and team work done at the time of the workshop.

The Workshop’s Themes:

  • SESSION 1 - LECTURE: Methodological Potential for the Architecture of the City.
TRAINING: Seeing the Invisible: re-discovering the surrounding city.

  • SESSION 2 - LECTURE: Developing Architectural Information: The Spatial Identity Code.
TRAINING: Mapping urban/architectural identity of the surrounding city.

  • SESSION 3 - LECTURE: Processing Architectural Information: The Dialogic Design.
