'Get A Little Dirt on Your Hands' at the Freo Men's Community Shed
Fremanshed Inc evolved organically from an idea that men in the Fremantle region could benefit from having a "tooled up" shed facility to work on their own or community projects.
The Shed has formed partnerships with TAFE, Police and Community Youth Centre, City of Fremantle Meeting Place Community Centre, Department of Education to provide woodwork based and social integration, intergenerational opportunities for groups diverse as youth at risk to senior citizens. It has become a catalyst for involving men with their community.
The Freo Shed plays a role in fostering men’s self-esteem, active social networks and creating valued roles in society. Active social relationships are seen to enhance health and assist in protecting against disease, including stress. Delegates will -
Share our history and experiences to date in developing a Community Shed with little funding, but with lots of community support.
Participate in a “hands on” activity workshop session.
Gain invaluable knowledge and information for establishing a Community Shed.
Share examples and discuss initiative that have seen the “Shed” add quality and value to the lives of individuals and other community groups.
A discussion forum regarding the establishment of a WA Men’s Sheds Association will be held.
