KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Professor Vincent Gregoire
Professor Vincent Gregoire graduated as a Medical Doctor (MD) in 1987 from the Universite Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. He was board certified in Radiation Oncology in Belgium in 1994 and obtained his PhD in Radiation Biology in 1996 after a fellowship at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (USA). Prof Gregoire was appointed to the Academic Hospital of the Catholic University of Louvain in Brussels (Belgium), where he is currently Director of the Center for Molecular Imaging and Experimental Radiotherapy, Professor in Radiation Oncology and Head of Clinic in the Department of Radiation Oncology. He is the current President of ESTRO (since 2007) and was recently appointed a member of the UICC TNM Advisory Panel on Head and Neck Cancer. In 2008, he was awarded Honorary Fellow of the British Royal College of Radiology.

Dr Moni Abraham Kuriakose
Dr Moni Abraham Kuriakose is the Professor and Chairman of Head and Neck Institute of Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin, India. He underwent training in General Surgery from the University of Bristol Hospitals and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Newcastle Hospitals. He holds FRCS and FDSRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Ireland and Intercollegiate FRCS examination. He further underwent head and neck oncology training at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. He was a Faculty Member in Head and Neck Surgery and Director, Head and Neck Oncology Research Program at the New York University, prior to relocation to India. His research interest is in early detection and prevention of oral cancer and clinical interest in skull base surgery.

Professor Harry Hoffman
Professor Harry Hoffman is currently the Director of the University of Iowa, Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. His clinical speciality is Head and Neck Oncology, Vocal Cord Paralysis and his current research is the role of pressure – sensitive reflexes during phonation, medialization V’s reinnervation for vocal cord paralysis. Prof Hoffman has won many honours and awards and since 1999 has been rated as one of America’s best doctors and since 2005 as one of America’s top doctors for cancer. Prof Hoffman frequently lectures on Head and Neck Cancers throughout the US and at conferences and has also published extensively.

Professor Jan B Vermorken
Professor Jan B Vermorken, an internationally respected medical oncologist based at Antwerp University Hospital (Edegem, Belgium), has been appointed to be the next editor-in-chief of the cancer journal, ‘Annals of Oncology’. Prof Vermorken will take up his post on 1 January 2009. ‘Annals of Oncology’ is a monthly journal published on behalf of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) by ‘Oxford Journals’. Prof Vermorken is currently Professor of Oncology at the University of Antwerp and Head of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Antwerp University Hospital. His main field of interest is in gynaecology, head and neck oncology. In addition, he has coordinated large trials in breast and colon cancer. His research interests include early clinical and pharmacological studies with new drugs, studies on the interaction of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, HPV in various malignancies and immunological approaches. He also devotes a significant amount of time to teaching, professional training, and continuing medical education.
