The 5th International Tourism Studies
Association Conference

The 5th International Tourism Studies Association Conference brings together China’s leading experts on the country’s outbound tourism market. In doing so, it facilitates discussions on how Walkway Kingsparkto raise the profile of Western Australia and to effectively position Perth in the China market.

It also provides a forum for international researchers to partner with Murdoch University, an outstanding research intensive university, to address environmental issues which both directly and indirectly impact tourism.

The International Tourism Studies Association is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to bridge the gaps in tourism studies and research, education, and training between developed and developing countries, particularly between China and the rest of the world.

China is Australia’s top trading partner and most valuable inbound tourism market. In the recent years, Australia has experienced faster arrivals growth from China than any other market. A record of 542,000 Chinese tourists visited Australia in 2011 – approximately 20% growth on 2010. Whilst these strong numbers present great opportunity for the country, Western Australia faces fierce competition in both domestic and international markets.

The 5th Biennial ITSA conference aims:

  1. Educate and inform its audience about the burgeoning China outbound tourism market;
  2. Encourage discussion about Australia’s and WA’s nature based tourism and its synergies with China’s tourism market, academia, and government; and
  3. Encapsulate the quintessential qualities for a city to become globally recognised as a “World Tourism City”.

We look forward to seeing you at the 5th Biennial International Tourism Studies Association Conference in Perth.
