Keynote Speakers

Ravi Anand joined CSIRO in 1987 and has been a leader of industry-funded projects since 1990. These projects have included multidisciplinary, multi-client projects through AMIRA and projects with individual companies. He has published over 100 scientific papers and reports. The outcomes of his research have been major contributors to the discovery of many gold deposits (particularly in Western Australia). Ravi has presented a number of short course and field workshops to Australian companies and foreign industry consortia in Brazil, South Africa and Canada, and has presented at a number of national and international conferences.

Dr Rob Bowell is Principal Geochemist & Director for SRK Consulting in Cardiff, Wales. He has previous experience as a geochemist with Ashanti, Goldfields, BHP Minerals and in academic research. He gained his first degree from Manchester University, UK and his PhD from Southampton University, UK. Dr Bowell is currently Vice President of the AAG.

Gwendy Hall is Head of Analytical Method Development in Applied Geochemistry at the Geological Survey of Canada. She has spent 30+ years at the GSC specialising in developing geoanalytical techniques for application in both exploration and environmental geochemistry. She has played a major role in the development of ICPMS in geochemistry, having begun this work with Sciex prior to commercialisation of this technique in 1983. Her laboratory focuses on technology transfer to industry, particularly in the areas of hydrogeochemistry, and partial and sequential extractions. Currently she is Editor of Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis (‘GEEA’), the AAG’s international journal.

Dr Richard Mazzucchelli has been at the leading edge of geochemical exploration in Australia, since 1962. His frontier research into geochemical methods and application of regolith geochemistry, has been introduced into the exploration programs of Western Mining Corporation (now WMC Resources), including sampling and analysis for gold, nickel, copper-lead-zinc and uranium. Richard’s career with WMC spanned almost 25 years and included appointments as Chief Geochemist and Regional Exploration Manager. In 1987, he established the geochemical consultancy, Searchtech Pty Ltd. He has extensive experience in all facets of geochemical exploration for a wide range of commodities in Australia, North and South America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. In 1999, the West Australian Division of the Geological Society of Australia awarded Richard the Gibb Maitland Medal for his contribution to geoscience in Western Australia. He is the inaugural winner of the CSIRO-CRC LEME Butt Smith Medal for 'outstanding and sustained contribution linking regolith science to exploration in Australia'.
