The Symposium will be held at the new Maritime Museum, Victoria Quay, in the vibrant harbourside city of Fremantle. With its restaurants and café-lined streets, historical sites and arts centres, Fremantle is the ideal cosmopolitan setting for evening discussions.
This relaxed and historic port city has a diverse mix of old and new and the range of activities available for all ages is boundless. Tour the streets and discover art and craft galleries and the famous Fremantle Markets. Sample boutique beers in one of the nearby brewery pubs or enjoy seeing the sun set over the ocean - a must for those from the eastern side of the continent.
Fremantle is within easy reach of the beaches of the Indian Ocean, Margaret River wine region, Rottnest Island and Western Australia’s capital, Perth.
Travel and General Information
Airport transfers - The Perth International and Domestic Airports are approximately 10kms from the Perth city centre. Taxi fare to Fremantle is around A$38 from the Domestic Airport and A$40 from the International Airport. A shuttle service operates from both airports throughout the day into both Perth and Fremantle. Shuttle transfer fee to Fremantle is currently A$20 one way from the domestic terminal. Climate - Perth weather in September is around 21 degrees C with sunny and mild days. A light jacket is recommended as some evenings can be quite cool.
Insurance - Participants shall be regarded in every respect as carrying their own risk for loss or injury to property, including baggage, during the Conference. We strongly recommend that, at the time of booking your travel and tours, you take out a travel insurance policy of your choice. The policy taken should include loss of deposit through cancellation, medical insurance, loss or damage to personal property, financial loss incurred through disruption to accommodation or travel arrangements due to strikes or other industrial action.
Shopping Hours - There are many specialty shops in Fremantle and Perth. Shops are open from 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm on Saturday and from 12.00 noon to 5.00pm on Sunday. These hours may differ slightly from shop to shop.
