Pre Congress Field Trips

An opportunity will be available for delegates to visit state of the art care facilities in and around Perth.

PRE CONGRESS 1: Southern Region Tour
8.30am to 1.30pm
Depart Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre at 8.30am and travel to Mandurah Care Facility.
Mandurah Care Facility is part of the Continuing Health Care group of nursing homes. Officially opened by the Federal Minister for Ageing, Hon Julie Bishop MP, the Mandurah Care Facility now caters for a total of 83 residents. The extensions to the 25 year old nursing home included new single bedrooms with ensuites, a variety of small and cosy sitting rooms, a big-screen theatre, staff training room and occupational therapy centre. Occupational therapy activities include the Intergenerational Playgroup, where up to 30 children, parents and elderly residents enjoy a range of activities together every week. Encouraging interaction between the elders and family and friends of all ages, including small children, is part of the care philosophy employed at Mandurah Care Facility. Continuing Health Care employs the Eden Principles, which it is actively promoting throughout Australia. The principles underscore the need for long term care that looks at the individual needs of each long-term care resident from a holistic, not just medical, perspective.
A second stop will be at Bethanie Waters Aged Care Facility in Rockingham
Bethanie Waters is the second of Churches of Christ Homes and Community Services Incorporated’s new residential aged care facilities, heralding a new era in accommodation and care. The facility has two 65 room environments with mainly single (with limited double) accommodation, each with private ensuite facilities, offering a total of 160 high, low and ageing-in-place residential places. A shop, café, hairdresser, consulting room, chapel, function centre and the Staying Active Centre (designed to maintain and improve resident’s mobility and general fitness) are located in a central sweeping boulevard which separates the accommodation from the higher activity areas. The facility operates as 4 houses, each with their own theme and home-like environment with a private and themed courtyard. Attention has been paid to the design and fit out to ensure care is enhanced with particular emphasis on wayfinding, creation of memories of home, smaller scale sitting rooms for privacy and enhanced dining experiences where dining rooms have been created to ensure freshly-cooked food is enjoyed in quality surrounds. Bethanie Waters offers accommodation for those requiring secure dementia, short-term and emergency respite, palliative care, ethno specific clusters, extra services and the general needs of frail aged.
A third stop will be made at Regents Garden Four Seasons in Booragoon.
Opened in February 2006, Regents Garden Four Seasons is a 100 home residential care facility where the bar of excellence has again been raised for Extra Services in low and high care. Most probably amongst the world’s finest residential care facility we will ever see.
