The Kojonup Country & Wildflower Festival is a fun- filled family weekend with the following highlights:
1.00pm SUNDAY 1st OCTOBER 2000 The Australian Bush Heritage Fund invites our WA
donors and supporters to join us The Kojonup Bush Heritage Reserve is a valuable area (390
ha) of wandoo woodland purchased by ABHF in December 1996. The reserve also
contains yate woodland, sheoak and mallet groves, melaleuca thickets, patches
of banksia, and areas of open heath. Wildflower and bird experts will lead the walk to see
orchids and other wildflowers, and the many birds present on the reserve. A
wetland enthusiast will talk briefly about the ecology of the ephemeral
wetland on the reserve. We anticipate a 3.5 hour walk including afternoon tea. To catch the bus from Kojonup to the block, or to follow
the bus in your own car, meet at 12.10 pm outside the Tourist Information
Centre at the old Railway Station on Benn Parade in Kojonup. For those
travelling directly to the block, please park near the temporary ‘ABHF
Wildflower Walk’ sign on Mission Road by 12.45pm. The block is 30 km by road from Kojonup. Follow the signs
from the junction of Albany Highway and Cherry Tree Pool approx. 16km north of
Kojonup. Please bring a picnic afternoon tea, a hat, drinking
water to carry, walking shoes/boots and binoculars. To help reduce the
risk of spreading plant diseases, such as dieback, in the block, we ask you to
clean any dirt or mud from your footwear before you arrive at
the block. The walk is one of the activities associated with the
Kojonup Country Wildflower Festival. The Festival runs over the long weekend
of 30 September – 2 October and features a range of activities, including an
excellent local wildflower display in the RSL Hall from the 30 September – 8
October. If you will be attending the walk, please RSVP to Margaret
Robertson on (08) 9842 8375. Alternatively, you can send an email to m.robertson@ecu.edu.au.
