
SHIRE OF GINGIN
The Shire of Gingin is Western Australia's best kept secret, with rural
countryside rolling into coastal plains and white beaches. The Indian
Ocean laps these shores, which are some of the best locations in the
world for windsurfing. Ths Shire contains many hectares of National
Park and Reserves, within easy reach of the Perth Metropolitan Area.
Farming activities vary from cattle breeding to silviculture and
processed and exported to many parts of the world. The Shire boasts a
colourful heritage, adn the history of the area has been well documented.
There is the lost treasure chest of the Dutch East Indiaman the "Gilt
Dragon" which was wrecked near Ledge Point in April 1656. Visitors can
enjoy a holiday in Guilderton on the Moore River and other townships
throughout the Shire.

The Gingin Cemetery is renowned for its prolific display of Kangaroo
Paws during the spring and is a popular stop on the itinerary of many
Bus Tour Operators.

A picturesque setting in Gingin townsite. The park has a waterwheel and
pool, electric barbecues, playground facilities & toilets.

A notable feature of the Gingin Walkabout is the Jim Gordon VC Trail
which traverses the Gingin Brook. An impressive stroll through ferns
and lillies under a canopy of paperbacks is a unique photographers
paradise with its natural flora and fauna.
The Lighthouse in Guilderton was built in 1984 and was the last light
house to be erected in W.A. The main beacon is visible from 25 nautical
miles out to sea and the height of the beacon is 73m above sea level.

Visitors may view limestone formations, which are in close proximity to
the Guilderton twonsite and visible from the Guilderton Road.

Located 90 km north of Perth, in a rural area between orchards, wildflowers,
emus and mixed farms, adnis close to the historic town of Gingin. Produces
a large range of finely decorated domestic ware, jewellery and limited edition
lustre ware, as well as pit fired ans salt glazed pottery. Farmstay is also

Stands on the site where travellers camped before Gingin existed. Much

An original settler's cottage has a collection of almost 3000 pieces
includes medals & badges with items dating back to 1799. Coutnries
represented include Australia, Britain, Japan, Indonesia, South
America, USSR, Germany plus scores of others. Open 9am - 5pm (Tues -

A small fishing community situated 120 km north of Perth. The primary
attractions are good fishing and swimming. Hosts the start of the annual
Windsurfing Classic each year & the rock lobster industry is the mainstay
of the community.
Just off the coast of Ledge Point is the location of the Gilt Dragon Wreck.
