SHIRE OF MOORA
The Shire of Moora was constituted in July 1961. Since 1961 a great many changes
to the town of Moora and the Shire have been made, such as a modern Olympic
swimming pool, caravan park, grandstand & pavilion at the Moora Oval and modern
sporting facilities at both Miling & Watheroo Ovals. The town of Moora has a
fairly stable population of about 1700 people with the total Shire population
being 3100. Moora is situated on the banks of the Moore River and stretches
across the clay flats deposited by an ancient waterway. This area in its virgin
state was a large salmon gum forest and many of the attractive trees still remain.
The floral emblem of the Shire of Moora is the wildflower "Verticordia Grandis",
commonly known as the Scarlet Feather Flower and grow mainly in the western most
area of the Shire.
