CERVANTES (Shire of Dandaragan)
Cervantes, 245 km north of Perth, was established in 1962 when 505 hectares of the
Nambung Reserve was set aside for a town to service the people involved in the
crayfishing industry.
The small but growing town, 2 km west of the Pinnacles turn - off, was named after
a nearby island which, in turn, was named after the wreck of the Cervantes,
a two - masted American whaling ship which sank on June 29, 1844.
